Ol' Man River (Thames)

Created by Esther 8 years ago
On one summer’s day Linda and I went walking along the river near Hammersmith with our friend Sara. We had a lovely walk but we got the time of the tide wrong, for we were talking and laughing too much to realise. We soon found out! When we turned to go back we were horrified to see how fast the tide was coming in and, as we approached the car, we saw that it was about to float away. We rolled up our trousers and raced back, getting there just as the water was lapping into the exhaust pipe. If Linda hadn’t turned the engine on when she did, her little Peugeot would have been a goner. There was quite a crowd of onlookers and I think they all thought we were quite demented when they heard our shrieks of joy as the car finally spluttered into life. Linda wasn’t at all bothered that the inside of the little car would stink of her dear ‘ole River Thames for ever! We were crazy with laughter and proceeded directly to The Dove for a pint to gaze at the river whilst drying our shoes and trouser legs!

We will carry her spirit…along with treasured and unique images of her…within us through the remainder of our individual lives - Esther
